Trivial History February 12

Running late again but strangely still on time!

1793 John Macarthur being the brown nosed toadie that he was was rewarded with a land grant of 100 acres near Parramatta that he dubbed Elizabeth Farm after his long-suffering hard-working wife who was the real energy behind the sheep breeding program.

When a greatly despised military captain popped his clogs in the early 1820's at Richmond, NSW not a single man nor beast mourned the cruel tyrant's passing.
The horses refused to pull the carriage containing his coffin despite much coaxing and whipping of 2 different sets of animals. Bullocks also refused to pull the hated man to his grave.
In the end authorities had to threaten 4 soldiers with the death penalty to make them act as pall bearers.
Did I mention how greatly he was loathed...?

1826 The Meth's were looking to drum up business with the opening of their first church in Tassie.

Ghost spot-
The North Head Quarantine Station must surely be the most haunted place in all of Australia. Filled with laughs, shrieks, moaning, doors slamming, cold winds rushing past and clammy hands touching visitors, according to reports, the Quarantine Station has remained home to many souls who died within its walls.

1851 Kicking over the ground while leaving the missus to mind the store Edward Hargraves found a whole 5 specks of the glittery gold stuff at Summer Hill Creek.

1901 Alexander Peacock took up the reins and became Premier of Victoria.

1959 Our Siggy was dropped off by the Yowies. Aussie actress, Sigrid Thornton, who has done more for corsets and laced bodices than a goth's marketing campaign could possibly hope for, was born in Canberra. More HERE.

1990 Carmen Lawrence became the Premier of Westralia and the first *gasp* female Premier in Aussie history. Next thing you know they'll be letting a female be deputy PM too....razz

Grandma Mehitabel's Menu-
Banana Ice Cream.
Mash 6 bananas until mushy and add 600mls cream.
Pour into ice cube trays and freeze.
Serve with sliced fresh strawberries.
