Trivial History April 27

A sniffly good morrow to you all!
After several forests' worth of tissues, a truck load of butter menthols and enough nana naps to bring Egyptian Mummies back to life, I'm feeling half-way human again biggrin
Which is saying a lot for someone who swam the equivalent of the English Channel in pumpkin, chicken noodle and French onion soups in the past 24 hours lol

1546 William Foxley, a worker in the Mint in the Tower of London obviously had been burning his beeswax candle at both ends as he nodded off for 40 winks and couldn't be woken for 14 days.

1749 Frederick Handel's Fireworks Music's first official performance was cancelled due to an outbreak of...fire.

1805 Gov King sent troops to the Hawkesbury area after several settlers were done in by Aborigines.

Oddspot-
The carcass of a whale, harpooned weeks earlier, saved 2 Maori women who were the only survivors after a canoe sank in Cook Strait in 1834.
They managed to swim to the carcass and grab the harpoon, then floated 80 miles to land.

1898 Proving Aussie kids have been wheat bix kids for a long time now, the Sanitarium Health Food Agency was registered today.

Ghost spot-
Little Lonsdale Street, in Melbourne, is where the spirit of Melbourne's founder, John Batman, has been frequently sighted. John Batman spent as many hours with "the painted ladies" as he did with his own wife and family, finally succumbing to syphilis the painted ladies had generously given him.

1904 Chris Watson didn't have much of a hobby to keep him occupied so he agreed to become the first Labour PM, and also the 3rd, of Oz.

1942 Darwin was bombed by Japanese aircraft.

Great Aunt Hepzibah's Handy Hints-
When honey becomes candied in the jar, lever it out and toss into a saucepan with 1 tablespoon of water for every cup of honey.
Gently simmer till all honey has become liquid again and then let cool before transferring back to the jar.

1971 Relics from the infamous wreck The Batavia were recovered in Houtman Abrolhos, off the coast of Westralia.

1977 Robyn Davidson packed up her troubles in her old kit bag and set off from Alice Springs with 4 camels to trek to the West Coast.

Grandma Mehitabel's Menu-
Honey Joys.
Melt honey in a saucepan, mix in cornflakes until thoroughly coated, then spoon into patty pans.
Sit in fridge to set.
