Trivial History July 17

Did the museum, dropped off the bones for identification.
Off to a special lecture on the recent archaeology dig at Fromelles.
No nursing story today as I was going to post one that has left a bitter taste in all our mouths but I decided perhaps I'll share it with you at a later date.

Place Name origins-
Every place in Oz named Albion is referring to, and is the old name for, England. Can't get away even when you get transported away!

1964 Donald Campbell took one look at Lake Eyre and then zoomed across it at 403.10 mph...Oz has that effect on some people.

Oz Slanguage-
Emu's breakfast = a drink and a good look around.

1979 Melbourne scientists developed the bionic ear for the deaf.

Six Degrees of Separation of Skippy.
Skippy - Drew Barrymore.
Tony Barry appeared in 1 episode of Skippy, then appeared in the 1986 movie Frog Dreaming which starred Henry Thomas.
Henry Thomas had previously starred in E.T The Extra Terrestrial.
Which also starred Drew Barrymore.
You can then connect Skip to...
Drew Barrymore -------> Whoopie Goldberg
Drew Barrymore -------> Hugh Grant
Drew Barrymore -------> Robert Duvall
And pretty much any Hollywood name you want!

  1. Bahahaha @ 6 degrees of Skippy.

    Can't wait to hear about the bones. Are you excited ??

  2. Did you know that when Donald Campbell fatally crashed the Blue Bird on Lake Coniston, absolutely nothing was left intact (of either the boat or him) apart from his mascot, a teddy bear called Lucky?

  3. I'm partial to pork rinds with my breakfast beer.

  5. Got the news, I'll tell you all about it!

    He should have let the bear drive the boat, Brian.

    Pork rinds and bum nuts, Evyl ? :P

  6. That was a quick reaction on your bone finds. Is it one more sleeps til we find out? Very exciting.
