Trivial History August 29

Having a lazy moment, so no added extras today.
Might pop them in later.
Or I might take up underwater basket weaving.

1836 Major Mitchell, on his numerous treks, popped into Portland Bay only to find *gasp* the Henty's had made it there ahead of him.

Learning to play the gum leaf looks like a nice hobby to keep me out of mischief.
Of course there's always that filthy past time - housework.
Gum leaves look attractive.

1874 The world famous tightrope walker Charles Blondin pitter-pattered his way across a rope 50 feet off the ground in Sydney's Domain. One crossing saw him garbed as a chef with a stove on which he stopped midway across and cook himself an omelette.
The eggs were scrambled but Blondin was not.

Feral Queen calls her biological father (my ex hubby) The Sperm Donor.
They don't talk much.

1906 Ever so grateful for the pressies from England, today saw a return of one of those "gifts" in the form of more than 90,000 rabbits.
Thank your mother for the rabbits!

The Spouse and Feral Beast shall be taking up the game of Trugo next week.
Another 2 days where they're out of my hair YIPPEE!

1914 NZ successfully, and without any resistance, captured German Samoa in WW1.
This land was later renamed Western Samoa and was administered by NZ during the war.

Last time The Sperm Donor wanted to speak to Feral Queen she refused to come to the phone.
So the moron reported her as a missing person to his local police.
They weren't impressed when I explained the situation.
He finally found someone who wanted to speak to him...for wasting valuable police time.

1992 The infamous Sydney Harbour Tunnel was opened with a flourish and a whoosh of traffic.

One cat insists on sleeping on my head.
He snores and dribbles in his sleep.
Just like The Spouse.

Opt for the latter. Then you'll have plenty of extras with photographs to pop in later as well.
