World Autism Awareness Day April 2

Except Autism Victoria held the march for World Autism Awareness Day yesterday.
Feral Beast and I attended and had such a good time re-connecting with other mums and kids, we could relax and just 'be ourselves'.
We were all given balloons to release at the end on the steps of the State Library, 1000 balloons to represent the 1000 Hours campaign to get funding for 1000 hours of early intervention for pre-school kids on the Spectrum.

Here is poor old Guv La Trobe, quite a forward thinking chappie in his day, and none too shabby in the parks/gardens dept before he bankrupted the colony with his best intentions.
So he'd have been quite chuffed to have these balloons.

And I was so proud of my boy who managed to keep himself together and partake in a crowded march through the city with a bajillion other kids - who were just as good keeping it all together.

Which was rather apt as 2nd April, 1984 Nena hit the top of the charts with 99 Luft Balloons.

I used to love that song. Sounds like you both had a wonderful day. :)

It was just a pleasant little march with no pressure or hassle, LiD, plus passersby were friendly and sent good vibes ;)

Ninety-nine, red balloons,
Floating through a neon sky,
They look a bit like nuclear bombs,
But for legal reasons perhaps they don't...

Shades of pink under the bed instead?

It was a huge disappointment that, this did not gain media coverage, it was world autism day, without the world or nation or state media coverage. With the elections this year, who is leading this. Yes it was a spectacular event in regards to balloons it was wonderful, it felt great. But this needs to be driven with passion, it lacks, we need more for our kids, NOW
